Powertrain fasteners: expert performance

Located under the hood and around the engine, powertrain fasteners need to provide excellent performance and durability. For example, corrosion resistance and friction requirements can vary across the engine and transmission systems – our extensive range of coatings can be tailored to fit these changing needs.

What do we mean by performance?

By high performance, we mean our coatings offer a superior level of corrosion resistance, and provide a consistent coefficient of friction. This allows maximum joint security, without exceeding the proof load of the fastener.

ZinKlad 250

A feature of ZinKlad 250 is the exceptional adherence of the coating. This makes it suitable for use in transmission housing, where avoidance of any particulates is critical to prolong component life.

ZinKlad 72

ZinKlad 72 can be used in engine and gearbox applications where there are reduced corrosion resistance requirements due to the constant presence of oil. ZinKlad 72 phosphate coatings readily absorb oil and other lubricants, providing an excellent level of wear resistance. These coatings give fasteners predictable coefficient of friction properties.

ZinKlad 750

As the amount of electrical components continues to grow in a vehicle, the importance of maintaining conductivity is critical for fasteners used in grounding applications. ZinKlad 750 passes GMW3200 fastener grounding applications. In accelerated testing the matt coating meets cathodic testing requirements. ZinKlad 750 also passes the GMW 14872 cyclic corrosion test, exhibiting both excellent white corrosion resistance and no red rust after 23 cycles.

Engine Valve

ANKOR Hard chrome processes are OEM approved and meet the specification of the major engine valve OEMs and Tier 1s.

The valve shaft is plated with an average of 5 - 8 µm micro – cracked Hard chrome for wear and corrosion protection in combination with low friction requirements.

ANKOR chemical solutions meet the present and future demand of the industry for high yields, lowest cost per part, long term planning security and ELV compliance.

Product Offering for Engine Valves:

  • ANKOR 1126 – reliable process, approved by major OEMs
  • ANKOR 1160 – high speed plating on egine vlves in zero discharge reactor cell

ANKOR Features:

  • Meets OEM specifications
  • Six Sigma Methodologies
  • Excellent thickness distribution and short cycle time
  • Unrivaled application knowledge dedicated global Hard chrome team
  • Predictable adhesion without anodic etching even on Nimonic and Inconel

Zero Discharge Hard Chrome Plating

The industry is moving away from conventional “open tank plating systems” due to the increased emission regulations and higher workplace safety standards.

ANKOR GAMMAT is a zero discharge plating plant, designed to meet present and future regulations on Cr(VI). The chemistry remains in a closed pipe system and plated parts are cleaned properly from Cr(VI) residues. ANKOR GAMMAT is one of the safest plating plants in the world. The system can be integrated in any industrial situation and makes plant approval easier.

ANKOR Hard chrome process additives are designed for single component replenishment and therefore increase process capability and yields.
