Point of Sale equipment, or ‘shopfittings’ make extensive use of the full range of MacDermid’s surface treatment portfolio.

Chromium metal plate offers wear resistance combined with pleasing aesthetics. Bright zinc imitates the blue-brite chromium look with exceptional corrosion protection.

Our phosphate and conversion coatings deliver improved adhesion for powder coated finishes, while our anodizing range allows designers to retain the natural ‘aluminum’ look where required.

  • Anodizing and conversion coatings provide both paint adhesion and protection for natural finished aluminum
  • Chromium plating is used in applications requiring both wear resistance and to improve the surface aesthetics
  • Phosphate coatings prepares the steel base metals for subsequent organic finishes
  • Zinc based electroplate provides a bright 'chrome-look' sacrificial corrosion protective coating for steel

ALUMINUM ANODIZED AND CONVERSION COATINGS

Before aluminum substrates receive their final painted finish, they need the correct preparation and base coating to ensure maximum adhesion of the organic coating. Iridite NCP is the chromium-free conversion coating which provides high adhesion values for subsequent organic coatings.

The Oxidite anodizing range includes degreasing, etches and sealers for all aluminum and its alloys. Anodized coatings can be used as a pre-treatment prior to painting or as a natural aluminum finial finish in its own right.

CHROMIUM PLATING

For components subject to high wear, for example cloths racking, MacDermid fashion finish portfolio provides the perfect solution to enhancing component durability and aesthetics.

Designers have the option to choose from mirror bright chromium to dark satin, or our contemporary full hue colors sold as yellow, red and blue. The chromium coated finishes meet ISO 4525 for service conditions

Fashion Finish Range includes:

  • Bright trivalent chromium
  • Dark trivalent chromium
  • UV-cured electrophoretic lacquer

PHOSPHATE COATINGS

Phosphate coatings are extensively used to improve the adhesion of organic coatings to ferrous metals. The CanPhos and Keykote phosphating improves this adhesion in either spray or immersion applications.

To meet RoHS, WEEE and EOLV directives, our processes include Qualicoat and GSB approved chromium-free systems. For multi-metal use we have cleaner phosphate systems which can be teamed with high-performance dry in place final seals to provide reliable, cost-effective pre-treatment for painting.

Our latest technology BlueKote 2000 answers industry concerns on disposal of phosphates. BlueKote 2000 is both phosphate and heavy metal-free. BlueKote 2000 increases the bonding between metal and paint as well as improving the corrosion resistance.

Zinc, coupled with a trivalent chromium passivate, provides an exceptionally economical and corrosion resistant 'chromium look' finish.

It is particularly used for plating supermarket carts due to the zinc corroding preferentially to the steel, therefore extending component life. This coating can easily be removed for recycling and refurbishing the carts.

Follow the link on the picture on the right to see MacDermid UK Anti-corrosion coatings in use supporting the supermarket cart refurbishment industry. This process helps the supermarket cart industry save both money and environmental resources compared to manufacturing new carts.

Typically in these applications, zinc is deposited as a 'blue-brite chrome' type finish with a neutral salt spray resistance of 72 hours to white and 240 hours to red rust. MacDermid's range of TriPass ELV trivalent passivates are all hexavalent chromium-free. Additionally the new TriPass ELV 7000 range include hexavalent chromium and cobalt-free systems. If required, an organic topcoat can be subsequently applied to provide even longer 'in store use' life.
