Electroless Plating Specifications - Electroless Nickel
MacDermid electroless plating specifications include aerospace coatings, automotive finishing, electronic applications (for example hard disk drives) and offshore oil drilling.
The properties of these wear resistant coatings meet key electroless plating specifications such as AMS 2404 and AMS 2505.
- AMS 2404 covers the engineering requirements, including corrosion resistance and hardness, for deposits on various materials.
- AMS 2505 covers deposits with a phosphorous content of less than 8%.

ELECTROLESS NICKEL PLATING THICKNESSES
The electroless nickel plating thicknesses depend on the specific application. Some examples of this include:
- Aerospace coatings, such as applied to aluminum connectors would have a minimum of 12um to ensure good corrosion resistance and conductivity.
- Electronic applications can be as low as 2um for solderability, while Hard Disk Drives are typically 15um. Industrial applications where an abrasion resistant coating with good corrosion resistance is required, plating thicknesses can be up to 75um
